Psalm 139:14 Loving Ourselves By Faith

Psalm 139:14 Loving Ourselves By Faith

14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”

Psalm 139:14

I’m sure you’re familiar with the importance of self-love, as most cultures around our globe embrace self-care to one level or another.

In America, self-love and self-care are a multi-billion dollar industry.

It seems everyone is talking about themselves, and sharing beauty secrets with the world through social media.

The problem with that kind of self-love is, it turns into idolatry and sets unrealistic, popularity-based expectations.

The fact is, true self-love is essential to growth. Loving ourselves is not an option, it’s part of a healthy relationship with a partner or a spouse.

What I mean is, how can you love someone else if you don’t first love yourself?

And that’s why it’s important to look at self love as a marathon, an ongoing nurturing process that will allow you to first, love yourself, as your love for God and others grows according to the Lord’s will.

Think of this analogy that takes place on an airplane, just before takeoff as a flight attendant instructs passengers to secure their own oxygen mask first before helping anybody else, since not getting oxygen yourself will impair you in relief and/or deplaning efforts.

This also applies to relationships.

If you are unable to love yourself or respect the person you’ve become, you won’t have the oxygen needed to stay awake or to help others. Without the love that you deserve and need, how are you going to give love to others?

And that’s why it’s important to start somewhere. Anywhere.

First, start by stopping. Stop hating yourself for everything you aren’t, and start loving yourself for everything you already are.

We all have strengths, figuring yours out will help you love yourself a lot more.

We all have weaknesses, get over yours or get working on them so one day your “worst” weaknesses are a thing of the past.

We all fall short of the glory of God, so there’s no need for a pity party. Jesus told the woman at the well to “go and sin no more.”

Guess what?

She very likely sinned again.

She and many others were in the presence of God and still, they sinned.

The greatest commandment is to love each other as God loves us. It is fair to make the assumption the greatest sin is to not love others, including ourselves… So grab a mirror and pucker up! You’re AMAZING!

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom bestowed upon David,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
