Luke 24:34 Easter, By Faith

Luke 24:34 Easter by Faith

34 The Lord is risen indeed!”

Luke 24:34

Today, i celebrate Resurrection Day. Most Americans do Easter.

What’s the significance of this sacred day and the true essence of what most folks celebrate? Easter, a word often associated with bunnies, eggs, and chocolates, has a rich history that predates these modern symbols. The name “Easter” is believed to have originated from the ancient goddess Eostre or Eostur, a deity worshipped by pagan cultures to celebrate the arrival of spring. However, as believers in Christ, it is crucial for us to understand that Easter is not about worshipping Eostre or indulging in chocolate treats. Instead, it is a time to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus and the hope and redemption He brings to humanity.

The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith.

It is the defining moment that sets Christianity apart from all other religions. Through His death and triumphant resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death, offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him. As the apostle Paul eloquently states in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”

Therefore, as followers of Christ, our focus on Easter should be on the miraculous resurrection of Jesus, not on the pagan origins of the name or the commercialized symbols that have become associated with the holiday. While it is not inherently wrong to enjoy chocolate bunnies or Easter eggs, we must be mindful of the message they convey, especially to our children.

Chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs may seem harmless, but they can inadvertently distract from the true meaning of Easter. When we prioritize these symbols over the significance of Jesus’ resurrection, we risk trivializing the most profound event in human history. Instead of reinforcing the truth of Jesus’ victory over death, these symbols can perpetuate a secularized version of Easter that diminishes its spiritual significance.

As parents and guardians, it is our responsibility to teach our children the true meaning of Easter. We must guide them to understand that Easter is not merely a celebration of spring or an opportunity to indulge in sweets. Rather, it is a time to reflect on the sacrificial love of Jesus, His triumph over death, and the promise of new life found in Him.

Let us use this Easter Sunday as an opportunity to refocus our hearts and minds on Jesus Christ. Let us set aside distractions and worldly influences and meditate on the profound truth of His resurrection. As we gather with loved ones and participate in Easter traditions, may we do so with reverence and gratitude for the hope and redemption we have received through Jesus.

Easter is not about worshipping Eostre or indulging in chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs. It is about celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the victory He achieved on the cross. Let us remember this truth as we rejoice in His resurrection today and every day.
