Proverbs 10:12 Ungodly Hate

Proverbs 10:12 Ungodly Hate

12 “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”

Proverbs 10:12

The word “hate” conveys a very strong, negative emotion.

The very definition of the word hate is to “feel intense or passionate dislike for something, or someone.”

I think you’ll agree that feelings of intense dislike doesn’t always translate into a lovely afternoon… 🙁

What about God? Doesn’t He hate stuff?

Indeed, God hates evil, just as we should.

He also hates falsehood and the assembly of evildoers.

But, imagine someone whose lips slander God’s creation in such an intensely despicable way, only hatred is felt in their voice in spite of their words.

Yes, hate is much more than a just a word.

Truth is, hate can spread from one generation to another much easier than anger or frustration.

That’s right! You likely hate something your parents hated…

Also, when used by a aggressor, the word itself becomes an instrument of torture.

When you tell someone you hate them, or hate something about them or hate something because of them, that’s crossing a line that’s bound to separate you from that person, and God.

What benefit is it to us to tell others we hate them? Or hate something about them? Or hate something because of them?

There is no benefit whatsoever other than more pain and suffering.

Imagine being in a relationship with someone who tells you “I hate giving you a massage, I hate Sundays because of you, I hate our crazy neighbor, I hate Christmas because of you, I hate my dad…”

That’s not godly hate.

When telling another person we hate them, or hold them responsible for hate in our hearts, we are essentially casting stones in hopes to hurt them back for something they did to us.

When we use the word hate toward another, we take on Satan’s role and spew venom instead of doing what’s good and holy, which is to spread love.

Feeling hatred is one thing. Being cruel about hate and hurting someone else, on purpose? Now that’s plain evil…

It is my hope you will strive to eliminate the word hate from your vocabulary when you are not speaking in God’s name, of His hatred for evil, falsehood and the assembly of evildoers.

Love others as God loves you, a sinner.

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom found through the book of Proverbs,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
