Psalm 97:1 Rejoicing By Faith

Psalm 97:1 Rejoicing By Faith

”The Lord reigns;
Let the earth rejoice;
Let the multitude of isles be glad!”

Psalm 97:1

Are you able to see the beauty in the world? Or do you find yourself overcome with darkness?

Either way, the planet will keep spinning, and in spite of how we feel about the world around us, life will go on and there are really only two ways to look at it: Glass half full, or half empty.

In plain English. are you grateful, or pitiful?

I can’t really speak for the latter, but I do feel led to write about joy and gratitude I found during my morning Bible time, in Psalm 97:1: “The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!” These words echo through the ages, inviting believers to reflect on the boundless beauty and kindness that grace our lives and to rejoice in the majesty of our sovereign Lord.

In a world often overshadowed by challenges, it’s essential for believers to cultivate a spirit of rejoicing. The psalmist’s exclamation, “The Lord reigns,” serves as a resounding declaration that God is in control. In acknowledging His sovereignty, we find the foundation for our joy, knowing that the Creator of the universe governs with wisdom, love, and unfathomable grace.

An Uncertain Journey

As believers, our journey is not exempt from trials, sorrows, and uncertainties. Yet, the call to rejoice is not contingent on our circumstances but is an invitation to see beyond the shadows and witness the beauty and kindness that persist even in the midst of adversity.

The psalmist’s plea for the earth to rejoice extends to each believer. We are called to be active participants in this symphony of joy, not mere spectators. Our lives are intricately woven into the fabric of God’s creation, and through gratitude, we become conduits of His love and kindness.

Rejoicing in the beauty of the world involves a deliberate shift in perspective. It requires us to open our eyes to the wonders of creation—the vibrant colors of a beach sunset, the gentle rustle of leaves in the wind, the laughter of children. These are not mere coincidences but reflections of the Creator’s artistry. In recognizing and appreciating these moments, we find a source of joy that transcends circumstances.

Rays Of God’s Light

Similarly, rejoicing in the kindness of the world is an acknowledgment of the goodness that resides in the hearts of people. Acts of kindness, compassion, and love are rays of God’s light breaking through the clouds of darkness. As believers, we are called to be purveyors of this kindness, reflecting the love of Christ in our interactions with others.

In our pursuit of joy, we must also be attuned to the needs of those around us. Rejoicing is not a solitary endeavor but a communal one. The psalmist’s call for the many coastlands to be glad signifies the inclusivity of this joy. As believers, we are tasked with sharing the good news of Christ’s love, inviting others to join in the chorus of rejoicing.

Furthermore, our joy is not diminished by the challenges we face. It is, in fact, amplified as we experience the transformative power of God’s grace in our lives. Even in times of trial, believers can find solace in the unchanging nature of God’s reign and the assurance that His love endures forever.

Let’s embrace the timeless message of Psalm 97:1 with open hearts and spirits of gratitude. The Lord reigns, and in His reign, we find the foundation for our joy. Rejoicing in the beauty and kindness of the world is not a luxury but a divine invitation—a testament to the transformative power of God’s love in our lives.

As we continue to serve the risen King, it is my hope you will carry with you the spirit of rejoicing, sharing the radiance of God’s love with a world in need of His light.
