Psalm 90:17 Obeying By Faith

Psalm 90:17 Obeying By Faith

17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.”

Psalm 90:17

It is with a heavy heart that I approached today’s Bible study.

You see, I am called by God to complete work He gave me to do, but I have been overwhelmed with fear and reluctant to complete my mission.

Until now.

After prayer and meditation, and immersing myself in His Word, where i sought God’s will for my life, He revealed His perfect plan and lifted my soul.

In my quiet time, the Lord suided me to the book of Psalms where I found inspiration, and courage.

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” This powerful verse holds a profound message for us as believers.

It speaks of God’s favor and the work He has assigned to us. But what happens when fear stands in the way of completing the work God gives us?

Today, we explore the role of fear in our lives and how, with God’s favor, we can overcome it and fulfill our divine assignments.

I. Recognizing the Fear

Fear is an emotion that each one of us experiences at some point in our lives. It may manifest as fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or fear of inadequacy. The Bible is filled with stories of individuals who faced fear when embarking on the tasks God assigned to them. Moses, for example, was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt but initially hesitated due to his fear of speaking in front of Pharaoh and the people. Gideon, another great figure in the Bible, questioned God’s call to lead an army because of his fear of inadequacy. These examples remind us that fear is a natural human response, but it should not be a barrier to completing the work God gives us.

II. Trusting in God’s Favor

The key to overcoming fear is to trust in God’s favor. Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us.” When we recognize God’s favor upon us, we can find strength in knowing that He is with us, guiding and supporting us every step of the way. This favor is not something we can earn; it is a gift from a loving and gracious God. It is a reminder that we are not alone in our journey.

III. The Work of Our Hands

The verse continues, “establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” This part of the verse emphasizes the importance of the work God has entrusted to us. It acknowledges that we have a role to play in His divine plan. The work of our hands can take many forms, such as our vocations, ministries, or acts of service. It is unique to each individual, and it is our responsibility to fulfill it to the best of our ability.

IV. Overcoming Fear

How can we overcome fear and complete the work God gives us? First and foremost, we must seek God’s guidance through prayer and meditation on His Word. By drawing near to Him, we can find the strength to confront our fears. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” With God’s power, we can overcome the paralyzing grip of fear.

Additionally, we must remember that we are not alone. The body of Christ, our fellow believers, can offer encouragement, support, and accountability as we pursue the work God has established for us. Community is a gift from God to help us walk through life’s challenges.

As we reflect on Psalm 90:17, let us be encouraged to seek God’s favor and trust that He will establish the work of our hands.

Fear is a natural part of our human experience, but it need not hinder us from fulfilling our divine assignments. With God’s favor, we can overcome fear, stepping boldly into the tasks He has set before us. We can follow in the footsteps of Moses, Gideon, and countless others who faced their fears and accomplished incredible things for the glory of God.

May this message serve as a reminder that God’s favor is upon us, and through His strength, we can complete the work He gives us, no matter how daunting it may seem.

Let us draw near to Him in prayer, lean on our Christian community, and trust that, in His unfailing love, we will not be shaken by fear. With God’s favor, we can be conquerors in His name.
