Sowing seeds of Eternal Love

As space shuttle Discovery prepares to return to earth, the orbiter sends final images from planet earth. Made possible by today’s technology, breath taking video has been streaming on my laptop computer since the shuttle lifted off from Kennedy Space Center nine days ago. I have been watching NASA astronauts float in zero gravity building additional sections of the International Space Station and simulating repairs on Discovery. Nostalgically, being an astronaut was my dream as a child…

Thankfully God had another plan for me. Humbly sitting on a torn chair affront an old desk using an outdated computer, I find myself grateful for all God has blessed me with. Having a computer at all puts me among the richest people on earth. The fact our ministry is internet based dictates we use computers so, I am truly blessed to have all the tools I need to minister to all those who will listen.

I often wonder about the impact of the messages we write. Much like the sower in Mark’s gospel, we spread God’s word as best we can using scripture and personal testimonies as seeds. For those of you not familiar with this parable, I felt compelled to share it with you.

A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil; and when the sun rose it was scorched, and since it had no root it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”

And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” And when he was alone, those who were about him with the twelve asked him concerning the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables; so that they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand; lest they should turn again, and be forgiven.”

And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown; when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which is sown in them. And these in like manner are the ones sown upon rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown upon the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” (Mark 4:3-20)

How fruitful are the seeds that were planted in you? Or have the seeds been eaten by Satan? If you have not been multiplying His fruit or if you have rejected His promise, you are facing damnation beyond words. God’s word warns us of such a place where evildoers are cast out to burn eternally.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:13-15)

But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!” (Luke 12:5)

God alone has the power to either throw us in hell or, through grace, to lift us to heaven where we are invited to rejoice eternally among perfect peace. Those already walking in His light are blessed to feel this peace growing among them. Those without a relationship with Jesus Christ must listen and repent of their sinful ways. A simple, honest prayer can be the difference between heaven and hell.
