Proverbs 14:23 Working Overtime By Faith

Proverbs 14:23 Working Overtime By Faith

23 In all labor there is profit,
But idle chatter leads only to poverty.”

Proverbs 14:23

Worfs of wisdom, if I’ve ever heard any.

I’ve been blessed over the years to hold many titles, wear many hats, perform a wide range of duties and work on countless projects that involve everything from marketing to house remodelling, solar generators and milking a cow twice, daily for a nearly a year.

Since selling my Cafe in Montreal back in 1988, and joinning the work force, I’ve been a flight attendant, sat behind a desk, where I designed web sites, produced media and engaged in marketing campaigns, I stood behind the camera at more weddings than I can count, flew my 4K camera drones over thousands of events & properties and managed multi-million dollar marketing & advertising budgets for private and publically traded companies. I’ve also waited tables for 10+ restaurants, driven 400+ rideshares with Uber, worked at Walt Disney World as a photographer, and sold vaccum cleaners, pepper spray and solar panels door-to-door. I worked as a juggling clown with Vargas Circus. And, I’ve managed this ministry for over 20 years.

I know hard work.

Soon, God willing, I will be a licensed Real Estate agent.

Where do I get all this drive, this energy from?

You see, I am on a mission from God. And, He’s given me wings…

So today, I want to share with you a message of encouragement and inspiration rooted in the wisdom of the Scriptures, specifically Proverbs 14:23, which says, “In all toil, there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” These words from the Book of Proverbs remind us of the value of hard work and the profound impact it can have on our lives, our communities, and our relationship with God.

In a world that often celebrates shortcuts, quick fixes, and instant gratification, the idea of working extra hard doesn’t come naturally, for most folks.

However, the Bible consistently teaches us the importance of diligence, perseverance, and steadfastness in our endeavors. When we work hard with integrity and commitment, we not only reap earthly rewards but also bring glory to God through the works of our hands.

  1. Hard Work Leads to Profit: Proverbs 14:23 makes it clear that in all toil, there is profit. God designed us to be productive and creative beings. When we engage in meaningful work with dedication and diligence, we often see the fruits of our labor. This profit may not always be financial; it can also manifest as personal growth, a sense of accomplishment, and the joy of contributing to the well-being of others.
  2. Setting an Example: Our dedication to hard work sets an example for others. When we commit ourselves to excellence in our tasks, whether at our jobs, in our homes, or within our communities, we become living testimonies of God’s grace and favor. Others can see our commitment and be inspired to follow suit, recognizing that our actions are driven by our desire to honor God.
  3. Bringing Glory to God: As Christians, everything we do should ultimately be for the glory of God. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.” Our hard work, when done with the right motive and a sincere heart, becomes an offering to God, bringing Him glory.
  4. Overcoming Poverty of Words: Proverbs 14:23 also contrasts hard work with “mere talk,” which tends only to poverty. Empty words and unfulfilled promises lead to a sense of poverty in our lives and relationships. Instead of talking about our intentions and dreams, let us show our commitment through our actions. Our consistent effort will speak volumes and bear witness to the faith we profess.
  5. Fulfilling God’s Calling: Each one of us has a unique calling and purpose in life. God has given us talents, skills, and opportunities to fulfill that calling. When we work diligently and strive for excellence, we are aligning ourselves with God’s plan for our lives. We become instruments through which God can accomplish His divine purposes on Earth.
  6. Persevering Through Challenges: Hard work doesn’t mean we won’t face challenges and obstacles. In fact, it often means the opposite. However, when we persevere through difficulties with unwavering faith, we demonstrate our trust in God’s provision and sovereignty. Our struggles become opportunities for God to display His power through our lives.

It’s not rocket science.

Get to work, for HIS glory!

Let’s start by embracing the virtue of hard work. By doing so, we not only reap the rewards of our labor but also fulfill our divine calling to bring glory to God through the works of our hands. Our dedication to excellence and perseverance in all that we do can serve as a powerful testimony to the world, drawing others closer to the love and magnificent grace of God.

I call on you to commit to working extra hard, not merely for your own gain but to honor the One who has blessed us with the ability to toil and prosper. Let’s be diligent, committed, and stive to bring glory to God through our hard work.

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom bestowed upon King Solomon and Paul,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
