Psalm 109:2 When Enemies Strike…

Psalm 102:9 When Enemies Strike

2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful
Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.”

Psalm 109:2

Yesterday was my daughter Mercy’s 10th birthday.

She is a gifted, gloriously beautiful young woman. I love her beyond words. She is, by far, the most physically unique of all my daughters in that she is the only one with blue eyes.

You see, my wife Elizabeth has lovely brown eyes.

And although I have green eyes, all my other daughters have beautiful brown eyes, just like their mom.

But Mercy has blue eyes. And I don’t mean blue eyes that are more grayish than blue, like mine on a cloudy day. Her eyes are like a divinely beautiful summer sky, they sparkle like diamonds and, if you are ever swindled in a staring contest with her, her strikingly piercing eyes will dazzle you into blinking submission before you know the contest even began!

When I should be rejoicing as a husband and father, for the sake of my beloved 10 year old blue eyed girl, it turns out those I love and yours truly are under attack from the enemy, again.

The good news is, when affliction rolls in like thunderous clouds, this is often an indication that Satan is on the prowl… And that’s good news! The angel of darkness seldom preys on idle servants.

The bad news is, Satan is after us, again.

The closer we get to Jesus in this life, the more severe the attacks from the enemy. Vipers and snakes sliver from one home to another, in an attempt to break down the backs of the sheep who are diligently obeying and serving God.

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

James 4:7

Like wild dogs, Satan’s soldiers spew venom and cast their nets over innocent prey in hope to provoke, to stir up anger in God’s servants.

This week, God placed me in specific locations, along a precise path and, He surrounded me with a wide array of people, from family, to friends, co-workers, and many others. It’s been quite an extraordinary week.

Through it all, God never left my side because I constantly sought after Him. I reached out to Him in His word, worshiped Him in songs of praise and glorified Him by completing the work He gave me to do.

While I certainly feel God’s mercy and grace in South Florida, I have recently found new enemies among those closest to me, a common nightmare among the Christian faith when wolves in sheep’s clothing infiltrate the church, and go on the offensive against an unsuspecting flock.

But, God Is Good!

As more enemies line up and raise their arms against us, God calls on us to put on His armor, pick up our sword and take on the greatest of challenges… The great commission!

I must admit, though I have been dragged through valleys and lifted beyond peaks, I now realize that God spared me from harsh battle for years…. Until recently when the enemy showed up with his army.

And so it is with a heart filled with hope that I pray to our heavenly Father to watch over us and those around us. I call upon His holy name to cover His servants with His grace and mercy, and to equip us as we endeavor to bring Him glory with our lives, in this life and onto the next.

Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid. When you feel the enemy closing in, turn to God for strength and guidance…

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom found through David,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
