One page a day

When was the last time you opened your bible? It is unfortunate most people could not answer this question off the top of their heads.

Another important question is “how much of the bible have you read?” Again, a large number of answers might put people to shame.

Knowing reading the Bible will make us better servants, how can we ignore the obvious benefits of God’s Word? Is it foolishness or sheer laziness?

As Christians, we should not only immerse ourselves in God’s Word daily but we must make reading the Bible a daily ritual in order to get closer to Jesus, so we can virtually ‘walk’ with God.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness“. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Some Christian families follow the practice of reading through the whole Bible. After evening meals, they read a chapter or two. They read from Genesis to Revelation, skipping nothing. Even the genealogies with their hard-to-pronounce names are read aloud.

We might question the relevance of such a method for small children, but it does acquaint all the family members with the entirety of God’s Word. It also exposes children to the sinful depths and spiritual heights of which we are capable, and it teaches them right and wrong.

If you’ve never done so, why not embark on your own program of reading the Bible straight through? Try doing it as a family or for your personal devotions.

There are two persuasive reasons for resolving to undertake such a program. One is Paul’s declaration that “All scripture is God-breathed and profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16). The other is the testimony of believers whose lives have been changed by following such a practice.

Read God’s Word straight through and you’ll begin to see the unfolding plan of God’s redeeming grace, and that you were the object of His love even before you were born. Do it once, and you’ll want to do it again.

“Oh, may these heavenly pages be My ever dear delight, And still new beauties may I see, And still increasing light.” (Steele)

Those who only sample the Bible never acquire a taste for it. I invite you to forge your relationship with God through His Word. Start today!

Let’s pray.

Father God;
We thank you for your unconditional love
For your forgiveness and your strength,
We thank you for looking after us, our families and friends
And for answering the prayers of those in need.

Lord we pray you will inspire us to spend more time with you
Through prayer and through your Word the bible,
Surrounding ourselves with your wisdom.

God please put us to work for you in the days ahead
And fill our hearts with love for one and all,
Lead us to those in need
So we can serve you through them.

Father we pray you will continue to shine your light bright
Upon us and all those around us,
And that you will lead non believers
To accept you as their savior so their lives are also filled with joy
.

God we love you and thank you for all that surrounds us!

Praise God,
Amen!
