Matthew 19:6 Divorce Is Not Of God

Matthew 19:6 Divorce is Not of God

6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” .”

Matthew 19:6

There has seldom been a more challenging time for marriages and families around the globe.

For starters, there’s the worldwide Covid pandemic which is having significant financial impact on countless families.

Next, Russia is at war with Ukraine.

When outside pressure interferes with family dynamics to such an extent, for so long, the result is catastrophic.

How does God feel about divorce?

That’s pretty easy to find out, since Moses and the apostle Matthew wrote about it in the Bible. God’s command about marriage and divorce is written in black and white, and there are no grey areas or need to try read between the lines.

God condemns divorce.

And He despises divorce even more so when innocent children are involved.

But, there are moral grounds that seemingly allow believers to dissolve their marriage, including adultery, abuse, addiction and abandonment.

It turns out, it’s abandonment that’s the #1 cause of most divorces when one spouse checks out of the marriage and when children are involved, gives up on the family.

Adultery can be forgiven, abuse and addiction can be treated, but when a spouse checks out or a relationship, often it’s a byproduct of poor mental health and without a miracle the marriage is hopeless.

This is the reason why counseling within marriages is critical.

If a spouse refuses to take part in relationship building counseling, that’s a clear indication a spouse has checked out or at the very least, is unwilling to improve the status of the marriage.

If you’re unhappily married, do something about it other than continue to destroy your family.

How?

Prayer. Worship. Fellowship.

Take your situation straight to God and ask Him for peace, guidance and grace.

Immerse yourself in songs of worship that bring glory to God, and please Him.

Lastly, surround yourself with other servants of the risen Savior, and seek counseling with Christian leaders.

All believers should be in fellowship, where each one of us can dwell in God’s love and mercy, and help each other as iron sharpens iron.

Whatever you do, don’t just give up or check out of your marriage, or mourn over your failed family because that’s not of God and it’s certainly not found anywhere in His word.

You should fight for your spouse and for your family. You made a promise, for better or for worse.

I urge you to keep your promise, for the glory of God…

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom found through Matthew,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
