Matthew 11:28-30 Resting By Faith

Matthew 11:28-30 Resting By Faith

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

God expects His servants to bring Him glory by completing the work He gives us to do.

That being said, our heavenly Father is well aware we are not machines, and we need rest.

After all, God Himself rested after He put in a week’s work…

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. ”

Genesis 2:2-3

Rest is so important, God dedicated an entire day and He even sanctified the day of rest, called the Sabbath.

God forces a day of rest upon us because he wants us to trust Him, and resting on the Sabbath day will prevent us from idolizing work.

On a physical aspect, we’re created to fall apart if we don’t get enough rest.

So it makes perfect sense to rest after our work is done.

But, when do we know when we’re completed the work God has given us to do?

We all have different circumstances and obligations.

Most folks have to work 40-50 hour weeks to meet living expenses.

I work a lot more than that, and because I have a large number of families who reply on my work performance, including my ex-wife and daughters, my day to day can be quite stressful.

I often feel like my work is never done, that resting is for the lazy, for the weak.

Are you like me, and have completely ignored the sanctity of the Sabbath?

God was not joking when He dedicated a day of rest for our minds, our bodies and our souls. He sanctified a day of rest because we need it.

Don’t have to be Sunday. Or even on the weekend. It just has to happen 1 day a week.

That day belongs to God. Just as you and I do… 🙂

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom bestowed upon Moses and Matthew,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
