Let your Lamp shine Bright

Rachel is a friend of my wife Elizabeth and I, and a wonderful breath of fresh air brought onto us by God Himself. Liz and I met the 22 year old Air Force photographer at her yard sale as she generously sold off hers and her husband’s belongings for pennies on the dollar. Rachel, a single mother to be has been abandoned by her fellow Air Force Airman and husband and on the verge of divorce.

“They’re bad, right?” Responding to my mentioning the Christian Broadcasting Network, Rachel’s sheer honesty revealed to be significant of my own experiences with this world leader in television evangelism.

Led by Pat Robertson, an opinionated would be wise man, the Christian Broadcasting Network turns out to be a for-profit company operating as a Christian ministry based in Virginia Beach, VA. One would think the president and spiritual leader of America’s largest private Christian broadcasting company, Dr. Robertson would have wisely surrounded himself with prayer savvy, faith driven individuals however my personal experiences thus far prove otherwise.

Condescending, ignorant and dishonest, the CBN representatives I have been in touch with have proven to be far more than imperfect. Unable to recognize the impact of the grave misrepresentation spread out throughout CBN’s HR department during a recent incident i inquired about, representatives of the Christian Broadcasting Network’s human resources department as well as hiring managers from CBN’s IT support section gave out a satanic stench beyond any other Christian organization I have ever come across.

Seemingly driven by business functionality rather than faith, it came as a shocking surprise as not one single person from CBN offered prayer or the Lord’s blessings during any of the many conversations I had with the Christian Broadcasting Network staff. All of CBN’s representatives seemed numb to the mission behind CBN’s ministry to “spread the gospel and prepare the people of the earth for the return of Jesus Christ”.

13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5 13:16)

I believe God blessed me with the gift of discernment. I did not feel the presence of the Holy Spirit when speaking with anyone at CBN which i believe is in clear contradiction with the ministry call mentioned in the word of God. Jesus tells us that as believers, our faith should shine as a beam of light and be visible to all those around us.

16 No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.” (Luke 8:16:18)

It is possible my experience with CBN turned out to be a “worse case scenario” during which I dealt with three separate individuals that had been weakened by the enemy. I pray that Lisa, David and Susan answer the missionary call to hold their lamp high so that everyone can see the light that emanates from the spirit they claim lives within them.

It turns out our friend Rachel may have been right after all, CBN is bad. As we all can be. This is why as disciples of Jesus Christ we are commanded to provoke one another in love, “17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)

I invite you to call on this ministry for prayer and guidance how to strengthen your faith through daily devotion, bible study, life groups and service onto God’s children. Always remember as a disciple of Jesus Christ it is far more effective to lead by example than through words. Let’s pray!

Father God;
We thank you for all your precious gifts
And your blessings in our lives,
And ask you to strengthen us and allow us
T
o shine your light bright upon all the earth.

We pray that you’ll inspire those who deny the truth
By hiding their lamp under a table,
By allowing the enemy to lead their footsteps
Toward ultimate darkness .

God we thank you for looking after us, our families and friends
And for answering the prayers of those who seek you,
We thank you for your love and your forgiveness
And for patiently guiding our footsteps each and every day.

God we love you and thank you for all that surrounds us!

Praise God,
Amen!
