Joshua 1:9 Overcoming Adversity Biblically

Joshua 1:9 Overcoming Adversity Biblically

9 “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

God loves us, and He longs for us to be at peace with Him and His ways.

Among Christians, adversity is more than hardship or misfortune. For countless believers, adversity is omnipresent.

In spite of our righteous intentions to serve and honor God, many of us face challenges that often seem unwarranted, or unfair considering our intentions.

Fact is, Jesus Himself experienced adversity when He was persecuted, then prosecuted by His enemies who sought to destroy Him.

He also faced adversity on the cross, where He was killed.

Why does God allow adversity among His servants?

He allows it to get our attention.

And, He allows adversity to help us to self-examine concerning the choices we make in our lives.

God also allows adversity to teach us patience.

When believers face adversity, we often go to Him for strength, guidance, clarity and hope.

The bottom line is, divinely appointed trials and tribulation help us grow into the faithful servants God needs us to be.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve noticed many Christians get discouraged when facing adversity because they don’t realize how God uses it to increase our faith.

That’s right!

Adversity yields powerful benefits in the lives of those who allow God’s trials to “train” us.

11 “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

Hebrews 12:11

God uses adversity to grow our faith in countless ways, for our good and for the benefit of others He places along our path.

Adversity is God’s training ground for spiritual maturity…

So, when you find yourself facing trials and tribulation, consider it a blessing and an opportunity to grow in your faith.

When faced with adversity, go to God for courage, strength and clarity, and seek wisdom through fellowship, a pillar of Christian faith.
