John 4:39-42 The Savior of the World

The Gospel Of John

Jesus was furthering His ministry throughout Judea and when He was on His way to Galilee, Jesus traveled through Samaria to a cursed city named called Sychar that was close to land owned by Joseph’s descendants. There, Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman, telling her about the water of life which lead to eternal life, as its source is the Holy Spirit, an everlasting spring who dwells in the soul of those who believe and place their trust in the Savior.

After He ministered to the Samaritan woman, she returned to Sychar and told the city’s leaders what happened at the well, and they came to the well to find out more about the woman’s claim the man at the well was the Christ.

“39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of His own word.” (John 4:39-41)

In spite of the woman’s reputation, many Samaritans believed Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the Christ, the promised Savior after the woman testified that He knew details about her even though they had never met.

The Samaritan men were curious, and they asked Jesus to stay with them so they could get to know more about Him. After they heard Him speak, the Samaritans’ faith grew stronger.

“42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”” (John 4:42)

The Samaritan men believed the woman who met Jesus at the well was telling the truth, but it was their personal encounter with the Lord that convinced them He was the Christ, the promised Savior of the world.

In this example, the Samaritan woman planted the seed when she went back to tell the men in the city about Jesus, and the Lord Himself harvested the souls of those who chose to believe.

The same is possible in our lives today. As ministers of God, we are called to sow seeds of truth and trust that our Master will appoint someone to collect the harvest. We all have a mission field, what’s yours? Let’s pray!

Father God;
We thank you for your blessings in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom found through the gospel of John,
We ask you Lord to inspire us to live out the apostle’s writings
As we continue to learn more about you through your word.

Lord we ask you to strengthen us each day as we endure through battles,
Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through the truth, the gospel, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by your word as we spread your gospel to one and all
Becoming examples of Christian faith through our character as we walk the narrow path.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us, to bless our lives and fill us with hope
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done
In our lives, for your life.

We thank you for your love and all you bless us with each day.

Praise God,
Amen!
