Jeremiah 2:27-28 Fake Gods & False Hope

Jeremiah 2:27-28 Fake Gods False Hopes

27 Saying to a tree, ‘You are my father,’
And to a stone, ‘You gave birth to me.’
For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face.
But in the time of their trouble
They will say, ‘Arise and save us.’
28 But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves?
Let them arise,
If they can save you in the time of your trouble;
For according to the number of your cities
Are your gods, O Judah.”

Jeremiah 2:27-28

Life in South Florida has proven to be far more challenging than I first anticipated.

While the weather is similar to the Tampa Bay area, located about 300 miles North of where I am in Miami, it’s the people who are nowhere near the same.

How so?

Folks in SoFlo have an attitude or should I say, they ARE an attitude.

You see, compared to Tampa and its surroundings, Miami is a cesspool for idols, fake gods and worse, false hopes.

For starters, the “Magic City” is known for its beautiful beaches, yearlong sunny weather and notably, very attractive locals. The flashy city has a reputation for hosting folks that place utmost value on looking their best at all times.

Fact is, the majority of women in South Florida have had something done to their bodies, or their faces to improve their appearance.

Sadly, the same women spend very little time or devote much of their energy and money on their inner beauty, rather they invest into idols, into mentors and ideals that lead them straight to destruction.

After all, idols have eyes, but they can’t see us. They have lips and a mouth, but cannot give advice. They have hands that can’t heal or touch, and feet that cannot even walk.

But idols and false gods are popular in South Florida because they require no real investment other than money.

Like good looks, in Miami, folks believe they can actually buy their eternal destination through idols, gods and even cults.

In His word, God warns us of such foolishness.

The Lord promises to be there for us in difficult times, to lift us up when we are down. He inspires us to spread love, grace and mercy on those He places along our path.

No idol will save you from Hell. No fake god will pull you out of the Lake of Fire, where countless unbelievers burn in agony forever. No misleading mentor will be there with uplifting words when you come face to face with Jesus and hear the risen Savior say “I never knew you.”

Yes, God is the ultimate Judge. He is after all the One who created all living things, every single creature has breath because it came first from God.

God is also love. His love endures forever, and His promise is a simple one: Believe, be baptized in the Holy Spirit and be saved!

It is my hope and prayer you will place your trust in the only One who will never forsake or abandon you. Look to Jesus for hope, for grace and mercy.

Father God;
We thank you for your presence in our lives,
We praise you Lord for the wisdom found through David,
And we ask you Lord to help us find joy in your perfect plan.

Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through your Word, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by the truth as we spread the good news to one and all,
And lead the lost to You.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us,
To bless our lives and fill us with hope.
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and our place with you in Heaven
According to your ways, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done, here on Earth and through the vast Universe,
May our hearts be filled with your everlasting love and grace.
Praises to You God, Amen!
