Fulfilling our Life’s Mission

It was another picturesque week in Tampa, hot sunny days sprinkled with daily thunderstorms make for sticky high humidity afternoons. Summers in Tampa are truly “hotter than hell”.

Still, this is where I prayed I would spend summer 2003, not because of the extreme heat but rather because of the people I am surrounded with. I had unfinished business here in Tampa and God is giving me a chance to “dot the i’s” fulfilling his mission for me and my Ministry. I have work to do here and am glad to say so far, so great!

This week’s message is a simple one: Fulfilling one mission. Most of us live each day without purpose going through the motions getting up in the morning, going to work, having dinner, watching television and going to bed. After all, we have to pay our bills and workdays are draining enough leaving only a few hours each night to relax and ready ourselves for the next day.

The problem is, the work we do leaves us feeling empty and for most of us, only adds-up to fueling redundant economic patterns. And so, our lives are basically spent working for nothing.

There is a better way, and as far as I am concerned, the only way: God’s way! Christ himself told many to give-up all material things and enrich themselves by serving God, that it was “easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter Heaven” seeing how rich men would have to give up all that mattered to them, their fortune. In deed, eternal life does not welcome the greedy rather, it is refuge for the giving.

Your life’s mission is a simple one, to serve God and to love your fellow human. Not criticize or try change him, but to trust in our Lord knowing he will do his work through our love and understanding. If you truly want to serve God, you will serve others knowing you are walking in Christ’s footsteps. Slaving away each day trying to made ends meet is not a Godly way of life, it is a consumer’s way and will not see you passed the gates on Heaven.

And so how does one answer his or her calling? By listening. By reading the guide written by our peers and servants of God. Rejoice in our Lord’s word the bible where you will find news beyond today’s cable networks or news channels. Learn from the word of God, attain wisdom and understanding for what truly matters in life instead of going around in circles. He is waiting for you to fulfill your life’s mission. It’s not too late!

Let’s pray.

Father God;
We thank you for all that surrounds us, for your love.
We pray you will guide our footsteps to serve you
And give meaning to our lives.

Lord we thank you for your gift of life in this world
And for giving us the opportunity to bless others around us,
Using skills and talents you gave us through the years.

God, we pray for your inspiration in the days ahead,
That we will be awakened to fulfill our life’s mission
And that we will see the light you shine all around us.

Lord, we thank you for your forgiveness in our sins
And ask you to give us strength to obey your word
And attain wisdom from the knowledge of others before us.

Father bless us with your love and your magnificence
That we may enjoy your creations all around us
And inspire others to do the same each day.

Praise God,
Amen!
