Being Thankful is Essential

Being thankful was easy this week, when a way of life feels better than any holiday, being thankful is an essential part of worshiping God.

I am most thankful for my relationship with God, my love for my wife Elizabeth, and my work where each day where I get to sit behind a desk made of weathered fence wood and a 6 foot surfboard. My office is not hidden among downtown concrete chaos, but a quiet room in a tropical cocoon where magnificent things of God’s earth are found.

From my man-made desk, I often sit and stare through huge glass sliding doors giving out to a patio, then a pond where a peaceful fountain gushes up water 20 feet high. Each day this pond is visited by a colorful variety of wild birds, turtles and otters where they all feed and drink. Often birds bathe then spread their wings to dry, and walk around like angels.

Today and everyday, I work on the edge of paradise and get to serve God all the while. I wake-up and fall asleep to a crisp breeze and a bright shinning sun rising over the east garden, then setting over the palm trees. I am truly blessed and thankful for each minute.

Such a true masterpiece served daily could quickly become routine, if not for daily reminders hidden in prayer. We all need to be thankful for God, our families and the work our Lord has planned for us.

Some are not so fortunate. Either dwelling in poverty or out of work, some of God’s children struggle with everyday life. Worse yet, some are losing their battle with temptation surrendering to evil ways. I believe God sets forth challenges for us to overcome and it is critical that we understand life’s challenges as God’s ways of giving our lives new meaning.

The bible has many verses that warn us about temptation:

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)

And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:13)

And when he came to the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Luke 22:40)

I praise God and know I truly am one of the lucky ones. Not because I have achieved financial wealth but because I have been blessed with spiritual wealth. This is why I do what I do and say what I say about the life of Jesus and the rewards He promised us.

God is good, and God is great. Walk with Him and you too will have much to be thankful for! It all begins with a prayer during which we are called to surrender our lives to Jesus Christ. A prayer where we ask for forgiveness for our sins. A prayer that opens the doors of heaven.

Let’s pray!

Father God;
We thank you for this day
Thank you for all that surrounds us,
Praise you father for all that came
All that is, and that will be.

Lord we thank you for looking after us
And guiding us each day,
Leading us to be more like you
Spreading gratitude throughout.

We pray you will continue to bless our lives like only you can Lord,
And we ask that you forgive our sins
And spread your divine light
Upon us, our friends and our families.

Thank you lord father for your ever growing splendor.

Praise God,
Amen!
