Acts 2:1-4 Coming of the Holy Spirit

Once Matthias was chosen as the twelfth apostle of Christ, another prophecy would be fulfilled in Jerusalem by which the chosen twelve would be empowered with the Holy Spirit.

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” (Acts 2:1)

Pentecost was a Jewish festival that celebrated the harvest, it typically lasted 50 days, starting the morning after passover. The day of Pentecost was the last day of the festival, a Sunday, at which time the apostles gathered with another 120 disciples.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:2)

The apostles and the 120 disciples heard a heavenly sound which filled the room where they were sitting, as the church was born through baptism in the Holy Spirit. This baptism in the spirit fulfilled prophecy spoken by Jesus, shortly before His ascension to Heaven.

3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.” (Acts 2:3)

After the resonating sound came tongues, which descended from Heaven unto each one, fulfilling God’s perfect for His church by the anointment through the Holy Spirit, and the spiritual gift of tongues. This gift would later allow for the furthrance of God’s kingdom to the four corners of the earth, where Hebrew or Greek might not have been used or even known.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:4)

Just as promised by Jesus on Mount Olivet when He last spoke to His apostles, each disciple was immerse and baptized in the Holy Spirit, so that in turn each one could witness to the lost in the name of the risen Messiah.

On this day of Pentecost, in Jerusalem, through the apostles and disciples the church of Christ and its great commission began. Let’s pray!

Father God;

We thank you for your blessings in our lives and for your servant Luke,
We praise you Lord for his wisdom and for his works through this scripture,
We ask you Lord to inspire us to use these verses in our lives
As we grow in you through the teachings of your faithful apostle.

Lord we ask you to strengthen us each day as we endure through battles,
Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through truth, the gospel, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by your word as we spread your gospel to one and all
Becoming examples of faith through our character as we walk the narrow path.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us, to bless our lives and fill us with hope
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and a place with you in heaven
According to your word, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done
In our lives, for your life.

We thank you for your love and all you bless us with each day.

Praise God,
Amen!
