1 John 5:1-5 Obedience by Faith, Fueled by Love

Within the Mosaic law, obedience to God’s commandments had been an integral part of one’s righteousness until Jesus came to fulfill prophecy as the messiah, the savior of man.

Replacing obligation with loving desire, Yeshua, the living Son of God was born of immaculate conception, lived a perfect life, dies on the cross and was resurrected on the third day, as prophesied and foretold for thousands of years.

John teaches us how to gauge one’s love for God, by one’s actions more so than words. Yahweh’s love is poured out by those in Him, who in turn are blessed with countless rewards for their works performed in His name.

1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.” (1 John 5:1)

To believe that Jesus, Yeshua is indeed the Christ means to accept Him as our own Savior in our heart, then confess we are sinners with our mouth and lips, and walk the narrow path in obedience from faith. To love God means simply to love others, as our heavenly Father loves us in spite of our sin.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:2-3)

To love God, one must also love His creation. The love we pour out in His name is proportional to the love we feel for our Creator. Therefore, through Agape, or brotherly love, those in Christ are blessed with the burning desire to obey God’s commands, not for prize, but out of sacrifice, out of love.

4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (1 John 5:4)

John declares faith the symbol of our victory, as believers overcome the wage of our sin which is death. Born of sin in the world, saved by the grace of God, through faith, Christians are saved from the lake of fire where agony reigns forever.

5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5)

Only those whose faith is focused on Christ will be victorious upon judgment day, and overcome the wage of our sin which is eternity in Hell along side blasphemers and skeptics. To believe in the Son of God, to repent and confess our sinful nature then walk in His footsteps is the only way to Heaven! the walk may be a quick sprint, bring proportional joy and fulfillment.

Or, the walk along the narrow path may be prolonged, as part of God’s perfect plan, and filled with corresponding blessings from Yahweh. Either way, there’s only one way to our Heavenly Father, through Jesus, Yeshua, the Savior or man, the Christ. Let’s pray!

Father God;
We thank you for your blessings in our lives and for your servant John,
We praise you Lord for his wisdom and for his works through this scripture,
We ask you Lord to inspire us to use these verses in our lives
As we grow in you through the teachings of your faithful apostle.

Lord we ask you to strengthen us each day as we endure through battles,
Allow us to praise and love each other through faith in you Jesus,
Shield us from evil through truth, the gospel, salvation and prayer,
Guide us to abide by your word as we spread your gospel to one and all
Becoming examples of faith through our character as we walk the narrow path.

God we pray that you will continue to bless us, to bless our lives and fill us with hope
We ask you Lord to guide our footsteps and lead us to the way everlasting,
Through faith in you Lord we seek salvation and a place with you in heaven
According to your word, your everlasting wisdom and strength.

May your will be done
In our lives, for your life.

We thank you for your love and all you bless us with each day.

Praise God,
Amen!
