1 Corinthians 5:9-10 Boycotting, By Faith

1 Corinthians 5:9-10 Boycotting, By Faith

I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.”

1 Corinthians 5:9-10

How could this happen?

As millions of people around the world watched the opening ceremonies in Paris, most of which innocent children, it was the attack on Christians that’s the buzz today all over the news…

So today, God’s voice resonated loudly within me and there was no doubt in my mind that I needed to dwelve into the Word, and share this message about taking a stand as believers.

Yesterday, our faith came under direct attack during the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics held in France. The deliberate mockery of the Last Supper by drag queens is not just an insult to our religious heritage but a direct assault on the very essence of our Christian faith.

As we reflect on this grievous act, let us turn to the Word of God for guidance and strength. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, wrote: “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). It is our duty, as followers of Christ, to stand against blasphemy and defend the sanctity of our beliefs.

What is the Last Supper?

The Last Supper is a sacred moment in our faith. It commemorates Jesus’ final meal with His disciples, where He instituted the Eucharist, a cornerstone of Christian worship. To see this holy event desecrated in such a public and offensive manner is deeply hurtful. It demands a response that reflects our unwavering commitment to honor and uphold the sanctity of our Lord and Savior.

In light of this, we must consider the impact of participating in an event that blatantly disrespects our faith. By continuing to support the Olympics, we implicitly condone the actions that took place. We must ask ourselves: Can we, in good conscience, support an event that mocks our beliefs and undermines the very foundation of our faith?

Why Boycot the Olympics?

Boycotting the Summer Olympics is not an act of anger or retaliation; it is a principled stand. It is a declaration that we will not tolerate blasphemy and disrespect towards our faith. It is a testament to our commitment to uphold the teachings of Christ, even when it means making difficult decisions.

The Bible reminds us in Matthew 5:11-12: “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” While this incident is deeply painful, it is also a call to reaffirm our faith and stand steadfast in our convictions.

As we contemplate our response, let us also remember the power of prayer. We must pray for those who perpetrated this act, that they may come to understand the gravity of their actions and seek repentance. Jesus taught us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). Let us follow His example, even as we take a firm stand against blasphemy.

Moreover, this incident should serve as a catalyst for unity among Christians worldwide. We must come together, across denominations and borders, to defend our faith and support one another. By standing together, we send a powerful message that we will not be divided or silenced.

Our decision to boycott the Olympics should be accompanied by efforts to raise awareness about the sanctity of the Last Supper and the importance of respecting religious beliefs. We should engage in peaceful dialogue, educate others about our faith, and work towards fostering understanding and respect among different communities.

Pray for our Enemies

So, let us stand firm in our faith and take a principled stand against the mockery of the Last Supper at the Summer Olympics. Let us boycott the event, not out of anger, but out of a deep commitment to honor our Lord and uphold the sanctity of our beliefs. Let us pray for those who committed this act and work towards unity and understanding among all people. As we do so, we will not only defend our faith but also embody the teachings of Christ, who calls us to love, forgive, and stand for righteousness.

May God grant us the strength and wisdom to navigate this challenging time and remain steadfast in our faith.

To God be all the glory, now and forever.
